What to bring
Pack for altitude, sun and weather
Camp opens at the trailhead at 8:30 a.m. Label everything with your camper's first name.
Sturdy shoes or boots
Closed-toe, already broken in, and fine to get dusty or wet. No sandals on the trail.
Layers
Mornings are cool and afternoons are warm. A long-sleeve top and a light fleece or sweatshirt that fits in a pack.
A rain shell
For storms and wet mornings. Weather changes fast at this altitude.
A hat and sunscreen
A brimmed hat, and sunscreen on before you arrive. Sunglasses are welcome.
A filled water bottle
Labeled and filled before camp. We refill at the trailhead and at every long stop.
A day pack
Big enough for lunch, layers and a bottle. We practice packing it in the Trail badge.
Lunch and snacks
Packed in a cold pack, with a snack for the trail. We don't share food between campers.
A notebook and pencil
For quiet time, map work and a field journal.
Hair ties and a bandana
Long hair is tied back on the trail, and a bandana is good for sun and dust.
Leave at home
Some things stay home
A day on the trail is easier without these. If something matters to your camper, ask us first.
Phones and tablets
Counselors carry a phone on every trail, and the camp phone is answered during camp hours.
Knives and lighters
No blades, lighters or matches come to camp.
Valuables
Jewelry, games and anything that would be missed if it were lost.
